border in the R.M. of Roblin which is used to meet this
need. This is not the first time we have heard this.
Desrochers has a hired hand in the name of Lloyd Jansen (well known to Cst.
Sullivan of Killarney) who is rumoured to be driving for Levreault and
perhaps Desrochers as well.
Armand Levreault is heavily involved in smuggling and our
source has made many trips on his behalf. All liquor is purchased
from Gene Steinke of Gene's Bar in Whales, N.D. All goods are picked
up at the farm and not the bar. They were paying $130.00 Canadian, a
case and recently forced Gene to lower his price to $120.00. Their
resale is $175.00 a case locally and $200.00 to Northern Reserves which
are being supplied. Levreault is quite paranoid about the police.
He wife is unaware of his activities, his son is aware but not involved.
Levreault does not use his home phone to make smuggling related calls
which I have confirmed. He is using his calling card and calling
Gene's Bar, recently from local pay phones. Levreault will make the
arrangements without prior notice to the drivers. He will then
secure a driver in the early evening of the delivery. The driver
will usually use a 4x4 2-tone green truck owned by Levreault. The
driver will be instructed to take the load to an abandoned farm where the
truck will be picked up by Levreault or his designee. Crossings
being used are the one just West of the Snowflake port where a seizure was
made from Rodney Brown on 94-09-09. As an interest to you that load
was for Levreault and Gene Steinke had cuffed the load to Levreault.
Steinke took the loss.
The other crossing commonly used is straight South of
Mather where the big white stone is. Proceed South for about five
miles and 1/2 mile West to a gravel pit where the crossings are being
made. Source stated to their knowledge, Levreault is not supplying
American liquor to the Somerset bar which is brother owns. Source
confirms Dennis Levreault has a strong dislike for the police with no
specific reason known.
We have forwarded a report to S/Sgt. Sisterson of
Commercial Crime requesting an income tax audit be implemented on Steinke
in the United States.

Handwritten note: Steinke was still smuggling in June
of 1994.
