Dear Mr. Hoeppner:
Mr. Norman Desrochers was in to see me this morning.
He requests that I write a letter to you informing you of some recent
events. He was in to see me on June 3, 1998 for a medical problem.
This time he requested that I give him a letter which he could use to
excuse himself from court appearance on June 8, 1998. I felt that
this request was fairly reasonable considering the current state of his
health. On June 5, 1998 I received a call from George Durston.
He informed me that he is an investigator from Canada Customs and he
informed me that he had received a copy of my letter from the crown
prosecutor. He explained to me that this patient has been avoiding
an appearance in court for the past year or two and he demanded to know
the patient's health status. He also informed me that the crown
prosecutor was absolutely furious and he may be contacting me in the same
regard. He also mentioned that there was a small possibility of me
being subpoenaed to testify in court with regards to the patient's health,
ESPECIALLY if I was determined to stand by my opinion that the patient was
not at that time well enough to attend the court.
Today Norman came to see me again. He tells me that
his initial letter was not presented to the court, and the he was
therefore found in contempt of court. Apparently Canada Customs as
well as the crown prosecutor denied receipt of this letter before the
court date. Obviously I have only Norman's word for this.
I hope this letter will help Norman in his quest.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Brent Fulcher
